National audience; Sous le règne d’Auguste, aux alentours du changement d’ère, quatre portes urbaines furent construites à Augustodunum : l’entrée tournée vers le nord-est a reçu son nom actuel lorsqu’on installa au Moyen Âge une église dédiée à saint André dans l’une des tours de flanquement de l’ancienne porte de ville. Cette réutilisation partielle de l’édifice antique, à une époque où l’enceinte romaine avait cessé d’être fonctionnelle, contribue à expliquer pourquoi cette porte monumentale est parvenue jusqu’à nous dans un état de conservation aussi exceptionnel.

Augustodunum, civitas Aeduorum, roman city founded under the reign of Augustus, was equipped with four roman city gates : the gate of Arroux and the gate of Saint André, both well preserved, the gate of Saint Andoche which sole remaining part is a flanking tower, and the gate of Rome, destroyed long ago.The heart of this study lies in the stratigraphic reading of those gates structure and in thoughts about the building site of Autun’s city gates operating process. International audience; Après plusieurs siècles d'interrogations de la part des savants et des spécialistes, la question de la datation des portes romaines d'Autun n'est toujours pas close. Il existe toutefois un consensus pour les attribuer au règne d'Auguste (27 av. J.-C.-14 ap. J-C.), une période historique étendue qui comprend notamment la fondation d'Augustodunum et le transfert de la population de Bibracte vers la nouvelle ville. C'est pour cette raison qu'il serait crucial de préciser encore cette datation et de faire le point sur les hypothèses les plus récentes.
